Groundskeeper/Ice Center Maintenance

Classification: Staff

Reports to: Associate Director of Grounds

Position Type: Full Time - Hourly

Position Summary: Under supervision of the Associate Director of Grounds, the employee will perform skilled landscaping work and hockey rink maintenance.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Minimum of 1-year work experience in grounds maintenance, landscape maintenance, turf maintenance, or other grounds related work preferred.  Will train the right employee.
  • Proficient in the use of a variety of landscape tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Detailed oriented and thrives in a learning environment.
  • Communicate with the Department Head and other crew members regarding daily and weekly landscape/rink maintenance.
  • Demonstrate sound decision making and problem solving in responding to work situations with minimal guidance or direction.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to perform irrigation systems maintenance.
  • Maintenance & preparation of athletic fields.
  • Assist in the set-up / takedown of special event programs.
  • Campus wide snow removal (including off campus housing)
  • Basic equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Wearing of appropriate PPE as needed.
  • Available to work modified schedules during hockey rink season.
  • Ability to perform hockey rink maintenance as well as operate Zamboni ice resurfacer. (Training provided in-house.)
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must have a means of contact during non-business hours in the case of an emergency call in.
  • Experience operating and maintaining grounds equipment
  • Candidate must pass a nationwide criminal record check

Physical Requirements:

●      Must be able to lift 50 pounds, push or pull weights commensurate with work assignments. 

●      Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

●      Perform repetitive motions such as bending, stooping and shoveling.

 

This is a 12-month position that includes full benefits.
