BASIC FUNCTION:

The Coordinator for Service Leadership and Community Engagement in the Center for community Engagement and Service, is responsible for providing oversight in which will guide, support, and develop University-sponsored volunteer service programs and community engagement initiatives. This 10-hour a week position will work to ensure programs and activities are consistent with the mission and goals of the University and contribute to an enriched and robust local community. The primary role will be to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to attract, engage, develop and retain dedicated student volunteers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote service initiatives to increase campus awareness of community needs and social issues in the RI and beyond through social media, blog posts, programmatic reports and our weekly magazine.
  • Support in the planning and implementation of the Center's signature experiences including the Service Plunges, immersions, campus wide days of service, such as MLK, Jr. Day of Service and specific themed weeks.
  • Partner with student organizations to identify and develop community service opportunities for student service organizations, clubs and athletic teams.
  • Serve as representative at service events, trainings, and meetings to provide positive enthusiasm for the Universities' mission and programs that result in inspiring volunteers to advocate.
  • Communicate effectively to build and maintain working relationships with student volunteers, departments, and community organizations on Aquidneck Island and in Rhode Island.
  • Mentor Thompson Academy @Salve's program leaders through weekly communications, trainings and curriculum guidance.

This position also requires the following abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge of the principles to advise student leaders both independently and in groups.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with college students to plan, produce, market and assess successful service & volunteer-oriented events and programs on a college campus.
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with non-profit community partners, the details, timelines and tools associated with producing successful service-oriented programs and events on a college campus.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication, as well as making verbal and written presentations.
  • Ability to carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments with little day to day oversight and as a collaborative team member.
  • Strong ability to organize, prioritize and multitask in a timely manner.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency with MS office and Canva

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create, implement, and sustain campus-wide community efforts.
  • Engage community partners for community service opportunities.
  • Perform sustained outreach to students and student organizations; promote student engagement, including volunteer service and experiential learning opportunities that connects them to the campus and Aquidneck communities.
  • Collaborate with other campus offices to promote student engagement including Student Activities, Residence Life, Career Development, the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life as well as academic departments.
  • Marketing for programs and events through MySalve stories and annual reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Duties take place primarily in an office setting located at Salve Regina University, however may include working indoors and outdoors when necessary to support the Center. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday aligned with regular campus hours. As an exempt employee you have some flexibility in your schedule, however, you must be available in -person during the regular campus hours Monday through Friday to meet the operational needs of the campus and department. Your specific start time is determined by your Appropriate Administrator. Evening and weekend hours may be required and will be specified only by the supervisor to meet operational needs. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance, as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator. The position may require occasional travel by automobile and the incumbent must be able to work some night and weekend hours.


Job Requirements:


Required:

  • Experience as a staff member or long-term volunteer of a 501 (C) 3 organization.
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and three (3) years of related experience to include community organizing and partnership building; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to service
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to civic engagement, service, and partnership building
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Canva, I -Movie and database applications
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with students and administrators
  • Possess excellent work ethics and reliability
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment
  • Possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evening and weekend assignments
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
  • Support the Mercy Mission at Salve Regina University and the Critical Concerns of Mercy: Earth, Women, Non-Violence, Racism and Immigration

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of related experience to include community organizing and partnership building; or equivalent combination of education and experience
