The Assistant Sailing Director plays a central role in the planning, execution, and technical oversight of all club regattas and race operations at Harbour Court. The position will work closely with the Sailing Director on all aspects of the Club’s extensive, world-renowned sailing program and on-water activities. This position will be heavily involved in race documentation, scoring, boat logistics, volunteer coordination, and systems management. Serving as a go-to resource for all regatta activities, the Assistant Sailing Director will be a visible staff member during all aspects of planning and executing club events.


Key Responsibilities

Regatta and Fleet Management:

  • Drafting and publication of all race documents ensuring accuracy, consistency, and strict adherence to rules and regulations
  • Oversee RC boat assignments including managing the request process and coordinating with staff, stakeholders and partner organizations. Work with volunteers and Sailing Director to score regattas through Yacht Scoring and/or similar programs
  • Manage the Race Committee volunteer sign-ups, partnering with Committee Chair to finalize committee assignments and selections

Operational Support:

  • Serve as a contact for regatta inquiries around ratings, rules, formats, and fleet selection; develop/maintain knowledge to be an ongoing resource for sailors and stakeholders
  • Step into other race-related roles as needed, including as markset bot operator, mark boat driver, race officer, etc.
  • Be a visible and consistent presence with committees, members, and stakeholder partners

Technology Management

  • Update/maintain Regatta and Race Committee webpages; ensure all digital content is always up-to-date, user-friendly and visually appealing
  • Be the primary technical lead for JotForm and CERVIS; manage registration processes and ensure system functionality
  • Serve as the lead technology / systems go-to resource for sailing program


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; 5+ years’ experience in marine/sailing fields
  • Direct experience in fleet, match, team, and distance racing
  • Depth of understanding in race management procedures and logistics including rules, scoring, ratings, classes, formats
  • Technical proficiency /willingness to learn Excel, creation of scoring systems, web platforms, form-building tools, volunteer registration systems
  • Strong logistical and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a willingness to be a go-to resource for members, competitors, and staff
  • Dedication to continued development in the field; the ideal candidate will have a desire to continue advancing as a race officer both nationally and internationally
